DELTA AIR LINES LAUNCHED INAUGURAL NONSTOP FLIGHT TO MINNEAPOLIS

Delta Air Lines introduced daily seasonal nonstop flights out of Valley International Airport

(Dec. 23, 2013) HARLINGEN, Texas – On Dec. 21, Valley International Airport (VIA) celebrated the inaugural flight of its new seasonal daily nonstop Delta Air Lines service between Harlingen and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP).  The flights are scheduled to depart Minneapolis for Harlingen at 11:30 am and depart Harlingen for Minneapolis at 3:30 p.m. The flights will operate with Airbus 320 aircraft with capacity for 150 passengers.

“Minneapolis-St. Paul is one of Delta’s major hubs with more than 400 daily flights. This is great news for Valley residents because the Delta service offers more destination options with connections to Detroit, Winnipeg, Europe and Asia,” VIA Board Chairman Richard Franke said. “The flight times are especially convenient for the winter Texans as well as other connecting passengers.”

“With this new service, our customers in Harlingen can enjoy convenient one-stop access to more than 125 destinations worldwide via our hub in Minneapolis-St. Paul, including Amsterdam, Paris, London-Heathrow and Tokyo,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s managing director – Domestic Network Planning. “We’re excited about adding Harlingen to our leading global network.”

To commemorate the inaugural flight, the Delta Air Lines flight crew and Aviation Director Michael Browning held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Delta Air Lines gate. Airport fire trucks also performed a traditional water cannon salute to the aircraft upon its arrival from Minneapolis (the inbound flight was 90% full). The gate area was decorated and there was a celebratory cake cutting for the participating passengers.

The new Delta flights are available for purchase at www.delta.com. Customers can check the Delta website for more information.
